Getting your first username and password

Self-serve; registering yourself and providing an administrator with your new username and password:

To register for a username and password with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO):

  1. Click on Transportation Safety Applications in the Home > Drivers and Vehicles > Transportation Safety Applications path located in the green bar at the top of the DES login screen.
  2. Choose the Register as a new user link from the Transportation Safety Application Links list.
  3. Read the Terms and Conditions Agreement and click the radio button next to the Accept and Acknowledge phrase at the bottom of the terms and conditions. Note: If you decline the terms and conditions, you are returned to the previous page.
  4. Click the Next button. The Self Registration - New User screen displays.

Administrators registering a new user: To register for a username and password with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO):

  1. Click on Transportation Safety Applications in the Home > Drivers and Vehicles > Transportation Safety Applications path located in the green bar at the top of the DES login screen.
  2. Choose the Register as a new user link from the Transportation Safety Application Links list:
  3. The User Administration System (UAS) login screen displays. As administrator, enter your existing User ID and Password and click the Login button.
  4. The welcome screen displays. Your task options display on the left-hand side under Menu. Note: When on the Add User screen, you are entering information about the user you are adding; not about yourself.

 

Acceptable entry format

Text box

Description

Last Name

User's last name as it appears on their driver's licence.

Maximum of 50 characters (A-Z).

Spaces, hyphens, commas, apostrophes, and periods are accepted.

A minimum of one A-Z character must be entered.

First Name

User's first name as it appears on their driver's licence.

Maximum of 50 characters (A-Z).

Spaces, hyphens, commas, apostrophes, and periods are accepted.

A minimum of one A-Z character must be entered.

Initial(s)/Middle Name

Maximum of 10 characters (A-Z).

Spaces, hyphens, commas, apostrophes, and periods are accepted.

A minimum of one A-Z character must be entered.

Phone:

Allows for a three-digit area code followed by a seven-digit phone number.

Extension numbers (Ext:) are a maximum of 10 numbers. Defaults to 0 if left blank.

E-mail

username@hostname.ca format

Example: driver.education@ontario.ca

Confirm E-mail (re-type)

Address must be identical to the E-mail address entered above

Enter verification code as shown in image:

Type the letters/numbers of the captcha code in the text box.

Forgot your password?

If you have forgotten your password:

  1. Click on Transportation Safety Applications in the Home > Drivers and Vehicles > Transportation Safety Applications path located in the green bar at the top of the DES login screen.
  2. Choose the Forgot my Password link from the Transportation Safety Application Links list.
  3. The Reset my Password screen displays. Enter your User ID in the text box provided.

 

Acceptable entry format

Change your password

To change your password to a password of your choice:

  1. Click on Transportation Safety Applications in the Home > Drivers and Vehicles > Transportation Safety Applications path located in the green bar at the top of the DES login screen.
  2. Choose the Change Password link from the Transportation Safety Application Links list.

The Change My Password screen displays. Your User ID displays in view-only format.

Old Password

  • Minimum of 8 characters

  • Minimum of 1 uppercase letter
  • Passwords are case sensitive.

New Password

  • Minimum of 8 characters

  • Passwords are case sensitive.

Confirm New Password

Entry must be identical to the New Password entered above.

Manage my profile

If you are an existing course provider, you can manage your user profile online:

  1. Click on Transportation Safety Applications in the Home > Drivers and Vehicles > Transportation Safety Applications path located in the green bar at the top of the DES login screen.
  2. Choose the Change my Profile link from the Transportation Safety Application Links list.
  3. The User Administration System (UAS) Login screen displays. As an administrator, enter your existing User ID and Password and click the Login button. Your task options display on the left-hand side under Menu.
  4. Select an option from the Menu from the list. The User Inquiry Search screen displays.
  5. Enter your Last Name, First Name in the text box provided.
  6. Enter your User ID in the text box provided.
  7. Click the Search button to continue, or the Cancel button to return to the previous page. Note: You can search by exact text box entry or by partial entry. To search by partial entry, enter the first three letters of the word followed by an asterisk (*) (e.g., Mis* for Mississauga).
  8. If you click the Search button, the User Search Results screen displays your results in alphabetical order according to the user ID. To reverse the order of results, double-click the column heading.
Update user profile

From the User Search Results screen:

  1. Click the radio button next to the User ID you wish to update.
  2. Click the Update Profile button. The Update User Profile screen displays. Note: When on the Update User Profile screen, you are entering information about the user you are updating; not about yourself.
  3. The User ID displays in a read-only format.
  4. Edit the Last Name in the text box provided.
  5. Edit the First Name in the text box provided.
  6. Edit the Initial(s))/Middle Name in the text box provided.
  7. The Security Scope displays in read-only format to authorized users
    Indicates whether the user ID is internal or external
  8. Specify the user's Classification as either Employee or Contract.
  9. Specify the user's Status as one of the following:
    • Active
    • Disabled
    • Locked out
    • Closed.
  10. Edit the Phone: number and their extension (Ext.) in the text boxes provided.
    • (3-digit area code) 555-5555 format
    • Extension numbers are a maximum of 4 digits.
  11. Enter your valid e-mail address in the E-mail text box provided
    • username@hostname.ca format (e.g., driver.education@ontario.ca).
  12. Re-enter your e-mail address in the Confirm E-mail (re-type) text box.
    • Confirm E-mail address must be identical to the E-mail address entered above.
  13. Click the Submit button to continue, or the Cancel button to return to the previous page. If you click the Submit button, message confirming your successful updates displays. Click the Done button.
Update roles

From the User Search Results screen:

  1. Click the radio button next to the User ID you wish to update.
  2. Click the Update Roles button. The Update Roles screen displays. The User ID and Name display in a read-only format.
  3. A list of offices and respective business roles display. To dis-affiliate a user with a role, select the radio button next to the Office and click the Remove Role button.
  4. Click the Cancel button to return to the previous page. If you click the Remove Role button, an updated list of offices and respective business roles displays.

Security Scope

Displays if the administrator has internal and external administrative authority.

Indicates whether the user ID is internal or external.

Status

Security access-based authority.

Radio button selection:

  • Active
  • Disabled
  • Closed

A final state; once closed, this status cannot be changed

  • Locked out

The system automatically sets to locked out status. Authorized administrators can set this status from the locked out state.

Confirm E-mail (re-type)

Address must be identical to the E-mail address entered above
